Gone with Sally Tomato, Hello Johnny Marr

Poor Sally Tomato didn't even last long enough for a picture spot- but welcome Johnny Marr, the second of the Smiths fish (he'll have to live up to the legacy of Morrissey). This one has been slow to learn to eat, but now prefers the freeze dried blood worms just as his bandmate did. I think the stress of moving in however has left him without a chunk of tail, it fell off earlier this week. He looks to be doing better now though.

Left Hand Canyon is on fire today- let's hope they get it under control.

How to Explain Chaos

In class I was introduced to the animated world of Flash design - the only software that's been known to make me anxious and nauseous. Luckily I made it out with this project that I think is pretty fun! Look at it here...

Summer School

I'm currently taking a digital media class to brush up my skills in the Adobe Creative Suite as well as pick up new talents like html! We built student portals to post our assignments too, here's mine! Design internships, here I come!

Gallery Internship

I've been coming to a Santa Fe art district gallery in Denver for some interning recently called 910Arts. It's a cool little place- a collection of old buildings gutted and redesigned to house artist studios and lofts, a couple of gallery spaces, a cafe and event spaces. It's been LEED designed with a huge focus on sustainability and green business running. I think it's good for me to spend my Saturday's here.

Resistor Creatures

I finally found something to use my collection of circuit resistors for! I built a family of insect-like hybrid creatures and put them into a ball jar terrarium. The bird feathers came from a cardinal my dad found dead in the yard and from parakeets I used to have. The pictures aren't the best quality and details are hard to see. Hopefully I can get some better shots.

Another style icon, but more importantly, lets discuss the lack of modern day masquerades.

To Alter a Book

My first studio project of this semester: to create an altered or an artist's book. The Unknown Quantity by Henry Van Dyke, a cloth bound edition from somewhere around 1919, is my victim. As I am still in the beginning stages, I have only cut out the thick of the book creating a cavity within the pages. If I keep chugging along, I'll be able to make the deadline, and post new pictures of the completed piece! To be continued...

Morrissey, a fishy friend.

Since the passing of Otis, I have been graced with a new friend, Morrissey. He started out as a picky little eater, I wasn't sure he was going to make it. Trend has been that I pick out the slightly diseased or ill fish -but all that aside, he is the most beautiful crowntail beta I have ever seen. He's a deep royal blue with crimson front fins, and adorable freckle-like spots. It is to be determined if Otis's love of typography carries through to Morrissey.
